Skittles, Yes Skittles, Nails a Simple but Effective Social Media Stunt.
Visiting Skittles.com today isn’t the same as any other day…today, you’ll notice something very different. Initially, you’re likely to see a Twitter Search page with various “Skittles” mentions however if you select “friends” in the square navigation layer you’ll be taken over to Facebook, alternatively selecting “Media” sends you over to Flickr for a gallery of Skittles photographs.
There’s absolutely no denying the promotion is innovative and viral in nature. However, for an individual/customer visiting the site looking for a particular piece of information – they’re likely to be both frustrated and confused. Irrespective, this is a step in the right direction and really puts a stamp on the value and popularity of social networks and applications.
A little more work from a usability standpoint and Skittles are onto a winner.
